Public Relations
What does "public relations" really mean?
Generally it means how you as an individual/business/organization relate to and interact with the public in person, via print and online advertising, passive and direct marketing and the news media. More specifically, public relations is about your brand; how do people perceive you, what does an audience think you do (or don't do), do they think well of you or does your name give them pause for concern or anger.
If you have customers, if you are actively seeking to sell a service, product, or idea to people, then you are in the public eye. The public's perception of your company -- something you can and must manage -- can make or break you.
Too often companies and organizations focus on their daily business functions without paying any attention to proactively managing their brand in the court of public opinion. Many times this is due to the size of a company precluding key executives from deciding they are big enough to spend money on public relations. Other times a company may completely outsource its PR efforts to the degree that they lose touch with the vendor providing the services, so the actions of the client and its public relations firm go in different directions. Operating independently, the business and PR vendor set the stage for miscommunication and misdirection in delivering key messages to customers.
Menzies Consulting offers a collaborative approach to take a serious look at public relations, regardless of an organization's size. There is no charge for an initial consultation, and options for services range from project-based outreach to full-blown communication plans. For those unfamiliar with the nuances of PR, we offer customized solutions to help busy professionals fit public relations into your specific business model. Our services include press release research/writing/editing/proofing; distribution to targeted media outlets and PRPowerhouse.com; use of Menzies Consulting as media contact to field reporter queries; and tracking of media hits.
